Three Berwicks, three different jobs.
Central Berwick (Old Princes Highway, around the Village) is mostly renovation work on 800–1200m² established blocks — pool digs, garage slab footings, drainage upgrades, the occasional significant tree to work around. North Berwick (Eden Rise, Edrington Park, Berwick Springs) is newer two-storey estate work — full site cut and fill, retaining-wall trenches, driveway sub-base. South Berwick (Berwick Waters, Manuka Drive) sits lower and wetter — drainage-led work dominates here.

Berwick soil isn’t uniform. The northern and eastern fringes (Eden Rise, Edrington) are mostly Class P/M silty-loam over sandy clay — forgiving, standard sub-base depths work. Central and southern Berwick (around Berwick Waters and Princes Highway corridor) leans into the reactive-clay belt: Class M to M-D, needs deeper sub-base or lime stabilisation for slabs and driveways. If there’s no geotech report on the property, we hand-test at the site visit and quote accordingly — better to spec a deeper sub-base on day one than re-cut a cracked driveway in 2030.
Side-access pool digs are a Berwick specialty.
Half of Berwick’s pool jobs are on established blocks with 900–1000mm side gates — too tight for a standard skid steer. Our Bobcat S70 fits 920mm; the Kubota KX008 mini-excavator fits 800mm. For period homes around the Village with 750mm gates we run a Dingo or hand-barrow. Adds a half-day to the schedule but means you don’t have to drop a fence section.
