Hampton Park · Casey clay-belt suburb

Excavation & bobcat hire in Hampton Park.

Hampton Park sits squarely in the reactive Newer Volcanic clay belt — the kind of ground that’s wrecked more 1980s driveways than any other soil in Casey. We know it block by block. Sub-base specs that actually last, drainage retrofits that fix the under-slab movement, and engineer-coordinated piered footings for extensions.

Why Hampton Park

The Hampton Park earthworks story.

Class M to H1 reactive clay.

Hampton Park is the worst clay in Casey — AS 2870 Class M to H1, 40–60mm seasonal swell, the full Newer Volcanic profile. That’s why nearly every original 1980s–90s driveway in the suburb has lifted, cracked or undulated. Modern best practice: 180–200mm crushed-rock sub-base compacted to 95% SMDD, lime-stabilised sub-grade where strength is low, edge drainage to take moisture off the slab. We default to that spec on every Hampton Park driveway.

Drainage retrofit is half the fix.

The other half of Hampton Park’s slab-cracking problem is flat natural drainage — water ponds against the slab edges and soaks the sub-grade through winter. We retrofit subsoil drainage trenches: 40–60m run from rear yard to the street kerb, 600–900mm deep, 100–150mm slotted ag-line wrapped in geotextile, pits at junctions, drainage gravel backfill, topsoil reinstated. $2.8K–$5.5K for the full retrofit. Reduces under-slab movement dramatically.

Established-suburb job mix.

Hampton Park is mostly 1970s–90s housing — lower volume new-build, steadier demand for renovation work. Typical week: an extension footing dig, a granny-flat slab cut, a pool excavation on an established block, and a driveway replacement on a 30-year-old home where the original sub-base finally gave up.

Typical Hampton Park jobs.

  • Driveway replacement 60m² with 200mm sub-base and edge drainage ($5.5K–$9K)
  • Subsoil drainage retrofit, 50m run rear-yard to kerb ($2.8K–$5.5K)
  • Single-storey extension footing dig on Class H1 clay ($2.5K–$4.5K)
  • Pool excavation 8m × 4m on established 700m² block ($4K–$6.5K)
  • Garage slab + driveway combined prep ($6K–$10K)
